I’m excited to work with you. This page is your go-to resource for booking sessions, submitting payments, and accessing curated tools to support you and your growing family.

Every birth is different. My goals for our time together are to be helpful, supportive, informative, and non-invasive.

Working with me as your birth doula means we’ll meet 2-3 times before your birth to help gain familiarity with each other and for me to understand how I can support you best. We’ll review the mental, physical and emotional aspects of birth, practice techniques to use during labor, and discuss ways to help prep for postpartum. I have many evidence-based tools in my toolkit AND we’ll focus our time on what’s the most helpful for you.

Starting at 37+ weeks, I am ON CALL for your birth. Meaning my bags are packed and my phone is on full volume even in the middle of the night. I am ready as soon as you say GO and will be present, by your side throughout your birth.

*Note you can contact me anytime throughout your pregnancy and I will respond as soon as I’m able. ‘On call’ means I am ready at any time to join you at your birthing location.

Based on your prefernces and care needs, I’ll plan to come visit after birth to check in, see how you are doing and offer any additional support.

Birth is transformative, and I am honored to support you through it.

TOURMALINE SERVICES OVERVIEW

About this work:

  • You are about to navigate something new

  • You and your baby are at the center of this journey

  • You are surrounded by people that love and care about you

My approach to care:

  • This is YOUR birth – I am here to support you in whatever that means for you

  • Having trust in your care team is perhaps the most important thing you can do to prep for a positive birth experience

  • Not everything matters to everyone. Take what works, leave the rest.

Birth Prep Resources

  • Tools to Help Choose Your Birth Location and Provider

The following pages include important questions to ask yourself as well as questions to reference with a potential provider when interviewing and / or touring a birth facility.

TO BEGIN: Take time to visualize your ideal birth experience. This can help you determine what’s important, and help narrow down your options.

After meeting with a location, make sure to review and share with your partner, support people.

  • Tools to Help Draft Your Birth Letter

A birth letter, sometimes referred to as a birth plan, is a great way to communicate your needs and preferences to your care team during labor, birth and the immediate postpartum period.

The act of creating this letter is as important as the information it contains.

This letter helps provide personalized information and facilitates a conversation between you + your partner and care team so that you enter your labor and birth feeling listened to, supported and understood.

  • What to Pack in Your Birth Bag + Items to Add to a Gift Registry

Whether you're birthing in a hospital, birth center, or at home, having essential items ready can help create a more comfortable, supported, and informed experience.

The following lists include suggestions for both the birthing person and support team, with a focus on physiological birth, comfort measures, and postpartum recovery.

Take what’s useful, adapt as needed, and keep in mind - prepping for a baby can feel overwhelming with a lot of stuff required. Much of it is ‘nice to have’ vs a necessity and some simply comes down to preference.

Training & Certifications

I love this work. Birth is an incredible thing to witness, and being able to support families through this process is such an honor.

I am certified through Community Aware Birthworker. Additional trainings and certifications include:

  • Evidence Based Birth, birth education

  • Child & Infant CPR

  • CAB Lactation for Birthworkers

  • Gilligan’s Guide Certification

  • CAB Birth Doula Mentorship

  • Quarterly Doula Match Meet Up events

  • Twin Cities Birth Center Birth Doula Internship Program Completion

  • Community Aware Birthworker (CAB) - founded by Rhonda Fellows and Heather-Christine Struwe - is a recognized Doula Certifying Organization in Minnesota.

CAB doula training explores the full spectrum of birth support — from prenatal and postpartum care to comfort measures and advocacy — with an emphasis on safety, inclusion, and community awareness. Students learn through real birth scenarios, discussions on bias and ethics, and guidance in building strong, connected practices that honor every birthing experience.

  • As a certified birth doula in the state of Minnesota, I’ve completed comprehensive training through the Community Aware Birthworker, state-recognized program and am listed on the Minnesota Department of Health’s Doula Registry.

This certification reflects my commitment to providing professional, ethical, and evidence-based care while honoring each client’s unique birth experience.

Certification also allows me to serve families eligible for Medicaid and select insurance reimbursement, expanding access to quality support for all birthing people.

My role as a birth doula is non-medical yet deeply rooted in emotional, informational, and physical guidance — helping you feel informed, supported, and empowered from pregnancy through postpartum.

  • My work as a doula is strengthened by continuous education, mentorship, and active engagement within the birth community.

I am certified in Gilligan’s Guide and remain connected with its creator, Ann Gilligan, for continued guidance and insight. I also work closely with my Community-Aware Birthworker (CAB) mentor, who specializes in high-risk birth support, deepening my capacity to serve families with complex needs.

Through professional memberships, I maintain access to educational resources like Spinning Babies® and Evidence Based Birth®, ensuring my care remains current and evidence-informed.

I’m an active participant in Birthworker Bridge, the CAB Book Club, and MN doula forums that foster connection and shared learning.

My next planned training is with the Body Ready Method®, expanding my understanding of body preparation and movement for birth.

Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers—strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength.
